Visits to Red Sol Farm provide an opportunity to connect with how produce is grown. As farmland dwindles, we believe it’s even more crucial to directly connect with the land.

About Red Sol Farm
We didn’t start out as farmers. Matt was a TV producer and Laurie was an ESL teacher NYC. In 1999 we moved to an 8-acre farm in Fogelsville, PA, near Allentown and adjusted our careers locally.
We did our best to tend to the organic but imperfect fruit in our 3 acre orchard, which we pressed for cider.
After 22 years, to further steward our land and learn about sustainability, we created Red Sol Farm. Our purpose is to care for the soil, create a pollinator habitat, and offer the community a way to appreciate nature’s bounty.
With the help of local farmers, we purchased a 1962 International 460 tractor to cut, disc, and seed our field. The tomato trellises are up, the plants are in, and—thanks to sun and rain– the field is full of emerging sunflowers!

Local Organic Resources
We connected with Rodale Institute‘s farmer mentorship program in Kutztown, PA. A second year farmer who runs Blackbird Farms, at the Seed Farm’s incubator program in nearby Zionsville, PA has been advising us on soil testing, organic certification, harvesting, marketing, et al. As part of the curriculum, students at the Seed Farm started our tomato seedlings.
